Plumbing Installation: Fixtures & Valves in Denver, CO

Toilets, showers and sinks are the parts of your plumbing you touch every day. Installed right, you never think about them. Installed wrong, they leak for years.

Where small plumbing details decide whether it lasts

Fixtures sit at the end of the plumbing system, which makes them easy to treat as a simple swap. In practice, each one depends on parts hidden behind it: the shutoff valve that lets you stop the water, the flange and seal under a toilet, the valve and drain behind a shower wall, the supply lines and trap under a sink.

That is why a fixture job is worth doing carefully even when it is small. The cost of a failed seal or a poorly set valve is not the part. It is the water damage in the floor or wall that follows.

Valves belong to the same family: the shutoff valves at each fixture and the main shutoff to the house, which determine how fast you can stop a leak in an emergency. When we replace a fixture, we check its valve.

Why we do fixtures the careful way

Jaime sees what happens when fixture work goes wrong, because he is often the plumber who opens the floor, wall or yard to fix it. That informs how he installs: new supply lines instead of reused ones, a tested seal instead of a hopeful one, and a check on the shutoff valve every time.

FAQ

Fixtures & Valves: common questions

Should I replace the shutoff valves when I replace a fixture?

If they are old, stiff or leaking, yes. A shutoff you cannot close is not doing its job, and replacing it while the fixture is apart costs little more.

Is it worth upgrading to a WaterSense fixture?

WaterSense toilets use 1.28 gallons per flush or less, and WaterSense showerheads and faucets use less water than standard ones, which can lower the water bill without a noticeable difference in performance.

Can you work with my remodeler or contractor?

Yes. We do the plumbing and work around the other trades' schedule, so the fixtures are installed at the right point in the project.

Should I supply the fixture or should you?

Either can work. If you buy your own, make sure it matches the rough-in and the space, and tell us what you chose so we can check the details before we arrive.

What does the main shutoff valve do and where is it?

It stops water to the whole house. It is usually near where the water line enters, in a basement, crawl space or utility room. Every household should know where it is.
